Infrastructure Security and Safety

What is Mobile Visual Intelligence?

Visual Intelligence refers to information in the form of pictures, video, maps, floor plans, symbols and icons that, when thoughtfully formatted, presented and updated, can provide safety and security professionals greater insight into an unfolding scenario in order to perform their roles more efficiently and effectively.

Mobile Visual Intelligence applications provide security personnel and first responders access to the available intelligence while in the field. Visual Security Intelligence can be provided by CCTV cameras, access control systems, motion detection technology, intelligent video software, computer aided dispatch (CAD) systems, and so on..

Security systems of all types that generate and present information have been implemented in and around buildings and installations for a long time. Traditionally, the beneficiaries of this information are the person at the control room or central station who then interpret and relay that information to officials in the field or at other locations. This exchange of information usually consists of a verbal notification of the event and a brief description.

The Case for “Mobile”

Mobile Visual Intelligence
puts more timely, actionable information into the hands of first responders and security personnel.  The ability for all personnel to immediately know when a possible security breach has occurred allows responding personnel a greater amount of time to prepare and formulate a plan of action. As the response scenario unfolds, continual relevant updates can give the personnel in the field an advantage that they’ve never had before. The ability to both immediately review the event as it happened and to also view the event as it progresses provides invaluable intelligence to the responding personnel.

Mobile Visual Intelligence technology can provide these advantages to every first responder and security professional. Computer technology has advanced to the point where “laptop” devices can provide “desktop” functionality while in a car and can stay in contact with the outside world on wireless data networks. Personnel that patrol on foot can carry “hand held” computers that can fit into a pocket. These computers can also stay in touch with land-based information systems constantly by utilizing cellular and wireless networks. CCTV security cameras and Digital Video Recorders (DVRs), based on “Internet Protocol” (IP) technology, can now be accessed via data networks. These networks can be wire-line networks or wireless.  Archived security camera footage can be accessed through the DVRs.  Access control systems have also been equipped to send and receive messages via IP networks. The technology that can connect the cameras/DVRs and the mobile responders, while also letting a command center control the progression of events, exists today.

The astute application of these technologies can put mobile visual intelligence into the hands of field security and public safety personnel. It can reduce the risks they face in dangerous situations. It can provide them the “situational awareness” they need that allows them to assess the situation and respond appropriately to the changing environment. Casualties, the actors in the scenario and other variables can be discovered and assessed in real-time instead of losing precious seconds and minutes in response time. By putting this technology in the hands of security and public safety personnel in the field, lives and property will be protected, and suspects apprehended and brought to justice.

Mobile Visual Intelligence managed by the right platform and presented with the right user interface and rules and permission can be an extraordinarily powerfull tool in the hands of

  • SECURITY PROFESSIONALS
  • LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES
  • FIREFIGHTERS
  • EMERGENCY RESPONSE AGENCIES
